About Us

The University of Queensland Wakeboard and Waterski Club was established in 1961 and offers wakeboarding and waterskiing in St Lucia on the Brisbane river.

We are the only University club that allows students and non-students to wakeboard and waterski on campus. We are open to the public every Sunday in Brisbane from 10am – 4pm (be there before 2pm to ride) and provide free lessons and coaching for waterskiing, wakeboarding and even kneeboarding.

At UQWWC we’ll help you stand up on those slalom water skis for the first time or help you nail that tantrum on the wakeboard you’ve been trying so hard to stick. So come on down and learn how to wakeboard or waterski!

Activities you can work on together

The UQ Wakeboard and Waterski Club offer everything you need including:

  • Wakeboarding, waterskiing and wakesurfing every Sunday on campus (open to the public)

  • Moomba Mondo club boat

  • Wakeboards, Surfers, Waterskis, Wakeskates, Kneeboards, Tubes and more! All included in membership.

  • Free coaching from experienced water skiers and wakeboarders

  • Regular camping trips to Lake Moogerah

  • Parties and social events

  • Anyone may join the UQ Wake and Ski Club, however, the club is targeted at UQ Students and there are a large number of UQ past students and staff as members also. However, any university student is welcome. There are a smaller number of members who are wake/ski enthusiasts from the wider community.

The club welcomes anyone who is interested in having a go at the sport! It is, however, recommended that people have a reasonable level of swimming ability and water confidence before joining – no other experience is necessary. To join, just show up at the club on any Sunday and ask to become a member. The club takes cash and card. All skiing/wakeboarding must be paid for on the day.

  • The club provides almost everything you will need, but if you have your own ski/wake equipment, you’re welcome to bring it along. You will also need:

    - Swimwear
    - Boardshorts (ski pants are available if you don’t have any)
    - Hat and Sunscreen
    - Money (the club takes cash or card)
    - Your friends!
    - You are welcome to bring your own equipment if you want!

  • The club is run by a group of dedicated volunteers who put a lot of time and effort into making sure members have a great time on the water. The club is always looking for new people to help out, so if you’d like to get involved, please make sure you let someone on our club committee know! Ways you can help include:

    - Hanging out at the club
    - Staying around to help pack up at the end of the day
    - Helping to wash the boats and equipment
    - Organise BBQs for Sunday lunch
    - Talking to new or potential members about the club
    - Towing boats in or out if you own a tow vehicle
    - Becoming a club-approved driver if you have a current Queensland boat license
    - Taking on a role in the club committee
    - Attending meetings
